about

The crux of this album is about struggle; both external and internal. As it has been for so much of the music written and recorded over the past year and a half, the social and emotional dynamics of 2020/21 loom large in the songs of is it ok?.

Apart from those shared/common experiences of struggle and stress (but likely related to them), I mysteriously lost my voice in April of 2020 and did not gain it back for almost 4 months. This was an incredibly scary and exceedingly difficult experience. One's voice is such an intimate thing and I use mine to form the centre of my artistic expression; losing it was at once terrifying and demoralizing. There was a period of time in which nobody could tell me why this had happened nor when/if I might regain what had been lost.

But I did get my voice back, and for that reason, the songs on this album - while laden with anxiety, uncertainty and fear - are punctuated with a redemptive triumph, as well. A reminder that there is always light at the end of the tunnel; no matter how long, no matter how dark.

A product of this modern cocktail of dynamic forces - and the rainy greys, the verdant greens of Vancouver, BC - THNDR is an expression of its deepest influences; worn proudly on its sleeve.

Heavy-handed riffs. Melodic hooks that dig a tunnel into your mind. Song structures that love a return to theme. Emotions that run dark and deep; seeking hope
